“[A] humorous look inside what goes on behind the scenes on Oscar night when things go in both the best and worst possible ways.” -- Broadway World
It’s Hollywood’s biggest night and Mike is stressing. He is nominated for an Oscar®. His transgender nephew wants his acceptance speech to be a political statement. His mother has a bombshell announcement. His boyfriend isn’t returning his calls. And Mike’s night is about to take an unexpected turn that will rock his world while the world is watching.
Master satirist Paul Rudnick (Jeffrey, In & Out) once again uses his razor-sharp wit to cut through the heartache and reveal the hilarious in this profoundly funny World premiere about family and fame, the personal and the political, and standing up and speaking out.
“Paul Rudnick may be the funniest writer for the stage in the United States.” -- The New York Times
A note from playwright Paul Rudnick
Big Night deals with, among other things, the aftermath of a tragedy similar to recent events in Las Vegas, Orlando, and elsewhere. While I’d never claim to have any answers, I’d like the play to become part of a conversation, about life, death, and the possibility of hope. As a character in the play asks, 'So what do we do, with this fresh madness?'
