Gala Honorees
Phylicia Rashad
Honoree Phylicia Rashad, inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in 2016, is a Tony Award winner (Skeleton Crew and A Raisin in the Sun) who has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Center Theatre Group as both a director and actress. Rashad directed A Raisin in the Sun for The Ebony Repertory Theatre production at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in 2012 and continued her partnership with CTG at the Mark Taper Forum, directing August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone (2013), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2016), Immediate Family (2015), and Blues for an Alabama Sky (2022). As a performer, she appeared on stage at the Taper in August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean (2003) and Tarell Alvin McCraney’s Head of Passes, directed by Tina Landau in 2017.
Joel Grey
Joel Grey originated the role of Emcee in the Broadway musical Cabaret and in the film adaptation. He has won various awards for his iconic performances, including an Oscar, Tony, BAFTA, Golden Globe and a Lifetime Achievement Tony Award in 2023. Highlights of his storied career are George M! (1968), Goodtime Charley (1975), The Grand Tour (1979), Chicago (1996), Wicked (2003), Anything Goes (2011) and The Cherry Orchard (2016). With George C. Wolfe, he co-directed the Broadway revival of The Normal Heart (2011, Drama Desk and Tony Award nominations). Grey directed the award-winning Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish (2018–2019) and had a recurring role on FX television series The Old Man (2022). He is an internationally celebrated photographer, and his work sits in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum.
ABOUT THE EVENT
CTG: The Gala starts with a cocktail reception and dinner, where we will raise vital funds for our education and community programs so that we can continue to have an impact in the community and bring arts to Angelenos wherever they are. Then there is a one-night only show at the Mark Taper Forum that will honor theatre greats and highlight shows from our current and future season. The evening concludes with a Party on the Plaza, underneath the stars with the downtown skyline in view.
The gala performance will include selections from HERE LIES LOVE and MAMMA MIA!, Surprise guests and others to be announced.

Proceeds from this event provide essential general operating funds for Center Theatre Group. Our mission is to serve the diverse audiences of Los Angeles by producing and presenting theatre of the highest caliber, by nurturing new artists, by attracting new audiences, and by developing youth outreach and arts education programs.
During the dinner, we will raise funds specifically for our Education & Community Partnerships programs with a paddle raise. These funds will ensure that we can continue to have an impact in the community and bring arts to Angelenos wherever they are.
